Randy Levine Rips Dellin Betances After Yankees Win Arbitration

New York Yankees president Randy Levine

Arbitration is a dirty, flawed process that needs to go.

If you’re just waking up you’ve probably missed the story that Dellin Betances lost his arbitration negotiations with the Yankees and will earn 3 million instead of 5 million. That’s the least important part of this story. Having to sit at a table for days on end and listen to the president of the Yankees explain why you don’t deserve money is not the most ideal situation. There’s two ways to go about these negotiations:  the right way and the wrong way. Randy Levine clearly chose the wrong path.

Yeah, I’m sure plenty of players go through this process and understand that it’s a business and leave it at that, but every now and then you get a story like this that makes you think, when are they gonna figure it out? Some people can handle being told “no, you’re not good enough to get this money” and others simply cannot. This isn’t what we have here, though, here we have Randy Levine, the PRESIDENT of the NEW YORK YANKEES, telling his closer for this year that “5M goes to elite closers. Pitchers who pitch the 9th inning and have a lot of saves. Dellin didn’t have that record. he never did.” I mean, cmon man. The insults continued too, Randy Levine apparently called Betances Dylan, which could be untrue there’s no way to actually tell. Anyway, Levine continued these verbal jabs at Betances saying that he could have asked for 5 million or 5o million, “he doesn’t have the stats.”

Bryan Hoch reporting on the post-arbitration talks

Mind you, Randy Levine said all of this AFTER he WON the negotiations. Talk about kicking a guy when he’s down. My brain hurts just reading into the details of this. This is a guy that you pay to try and save baseball games for your organization and these are the words you use to describe him. We are less than 2 months away from opening day and today we got a sneak peek of how things are going in the New York Yankees organization. I’m not even a Yankee fan, but I will definitely be paying a little more attention to the Yankees this year, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Someone, please buy Randy Levine a muzzle.

Betances was also quoted saying “You look at it a little differently now. I think (free agency) will be a little easier when the time comes.”Good for Dellin Betances too. I could see him having a great year just to spite Randy Levine.  If you’re a Yankee fan this has to make you sick. The fans love Betances and from what I am seeing on twitter, the collective thought is to shut Randy Levine up as quickly as possible. If you didn’t wake up with a hangover and a splitting headache, Randy Levine has got you covered. April 2nd is coming faster than you think, I for one, cannot wait.
