Every fighter has a weakness and as a fighter, your job is to expose your opponents weaknesses. In little over a month Conor Mcgregor aka “Mystic Mac” aka “King Ghost” a south paw (left handed fighter) goes against boxing’s best Floyd “money” Mayweather in hopes of cracking the “May Vinci” code and exploiting Floyds (apparent) weakness while 49 other opponents have not including boxing’s rising star in Canelo Alvarez and 8 division world champion Manny Pacquaio.
Some say McGregor has a chance being that Mayweather historically has difficulties against southpaws.
WRONG! (McGregor should be more concerned about losing gas by the 4th round)
Mayweather throughout his boxing career is 9-0 against southpaws with 4 KOs including against boxing’s best southpaw in Manny Pacquaio who he beat unanimously in the most watched fight in boxing history.
UFC president Dana White said that if there is a potential weakness for Mayweather, it is against southpaws.
During a conference call to help promote the MayMac fight, White says “I mean, listen, is he(McGregor) at the level of a Floyd Mayweather, as far as boxing standards go? No, But the kid, first of all, is a southpaw, and people can, you know, argue one way or another. Floyd, traditionally, if you want to say there’s ever been a kink in the armor with that kid, it’s with southpaws, and Conor McGregor is an absolute knockout artist.”
I mean in all honesty…… good job Dana White for defending the MMA side and doing the best you can to promote your side without sounding like a complete idiot but you’re full of sh**.
Former boxing champion Robert Guerrero (also a big MMA fan and friends with McGregor’s adversary Nate Diaz) also a southpaw who fought Floyd whom at the time was coming out of retirement, recalls his encounter with Floyd.
“Being a fight fan myself and watching MMA fights, I don’t think there is anybody nearly as fast as Floyd Mayweather in that sport,” Guerrero said. “That’s a problem with everybody who gets in with Floyd Mayweather, dealing with his speed”
Some may argue “watch the fights” especially against Demarcus Corley and Zab Judah or why did he only fight 9 southpaws? Was he avoiding them?
Place 20 people in a room and ask them randomly if they’re righty or lefty most likely over 85% will say they’re a righty and it has been said that lefties make up 10% of the world so that’s most likely the same reason why he’s only fought 9.
But in reality, it does not matter because what all these 9 southpaws have in common is they’re all natural boxers. They aren’t someone who claims to be boxing’s best with no amateur record and zero boxing experience against professional boxers (and an insult to the sport and to boxers who compete in the Olympics) I’m sure you’ve heard that before and it sounds very redundant, however, it’s the damn truth and if people think McGregor stands a slight chance and hopefully landing the luckiest punch to take out boxing’s TBE. You are truly mistaken.
You know who’s also a great left-handed athlete? Tim Tebow! Who went from football to baseball. Why can’t he transition into boxing and create the biggest upset in sports history? He can train just as hard as McGregor and they’ll both have something in common…they’ll both have shared the same chance of beating Floyd inside the boxing ring.
