This past weekend marked one of the most entertaining weekends of the NBA year and that’s All-Star weekend. We watched a Knick finally do something good. We watched Eric Gordon make it rain in the three-point contest. How can we forget the biggest headline, Kevin Durant actually passed Russell Westbrook the ball. I don’t see the big deal at all but everyone and their mother made it into a story. But the biggest story of the weekend came after all star weekend came to a close. The Sacramento Kings traded their franchise player Demarcus Cousins to the Pelicans for basically nothing. The trade was a joke but I will save that for another story. The Pelicans now have the two best big men in the league in Davis and Cousins. Since Davis’s rookie year Davis and Cousins have had the most 30
The Sacramento Kings traded their franchise player Demarcus Cousins to the Pelicans for basically nothing. The trade was a joke but I will save that for another story. The Pelicans now have the two best big men in the league in Davis and Cousins. Since Davis’s rookie year Davis and Cousins have had the most 30-point 15 rebound games in the league. It’s safe to the NBA is getting a little nervous of the once irrelevant Pelicans. But I don’t think they are a force to be scared of just yet because they right now are a few games out of the 8 seed. They probably can make the playoffs, but they will have to play the Warriors and even though they have these two monsters they will need a lot more to knock off the Warriors. I look for the Pelicans to keep making moves in the offseason.
I have this one theory that people might not think is possible but hear me out. Chris Paul is scheduled to be a free agent this summer. Yes, he loves the Clippers but what have they done? Nothing special at all and is Chris Paul getting any younger? Clippers have a great team but are always battling injuries. Let’s just say the Clippers once again suffer a heartbreak in the playoffs. Do you think Paul will second guess resigning? Of course, he will. This is when the New Orleans Pelicans come into play. They have two young hungry big men in Cousins and Davis who will need some role players and one more star player to turn into a serious NBA force. Why wouldn’t Chris Paul consider this? He has never won a championship and it seems like the only way to win one in this time of the NBA is to pair up with other superstars.
People also forget that Paul used to play in New Orleans when they were the Hornets. He loved playing there and I think he will be open to coming back. Some might ask what they will do with Jrue Holiday? Holiday is a solid point guard with a lot of trade value. Pelicans should trade him for some solid role players and this will make more cap space for Chris Paul. How about the market? Yes, obviously Los Angeles is a bigger market than New Orleans. But I think Paul is passed the market he just wants to win. Also look at Cavs they are a super team that plays in Cleveland. A team with Paul, Cousins, and Davis will be instant title contenders. They would present a horrible matchup for both Golden State and Cleveland. Chris Paul is a better overall player than both Irving and Curry. Also, Cousins and Davis would body the Cavs and Warriors big men. Yes, you might laugh at me saying Chris Paul leaving the Clippers for the Pelicans. But frankly, he would be dumb to not consider this. We will just have to wait for this summer.
