A mere 8 months ago, Tiger Woods was arrested for a DUI. Woods was driving under 5 influences because clearly, he loves to fucking party. His tox screen tested positive for Ambien, Xanax, THC the active ingredient in cannabis. As well as 2 prescription painkillers, Vicodin and Dilaudid. The police report stated he blew a 0.0 Breathalyzer test but was incoherent. Fast forward to today, he’s one stroke behind the leader with 18 holes left to play.
Side Note: Who the fuck was his primary care physician? And when is his next available appointment? -Asking for a friend
Woods will be teeing off in the second to last pairing in the final round of the Valspar Championship today at 1:50 PM. After shooting 4 under in the 3rd round Woods (-8) is within one stroke of the tournament’s leader Corey Conners (-9). Currently, there is a 3-way tie for second. Conners is a rookie on the PGA tour and is untested in high-pressure rounds. My question is, what would be more pressure than Tiger Woods in his classic “I’m gonna hole this putt, then I’m gonna hole your girl” bright vibrant red shirt? Tiger’s patented blood color Sunday uniform is now officially something to be feared again.
It’s the shirt he wore when he birdied 3 of the last 4 holes to come back from a 2 shot deficit. It was the shirt he wore when he came back from a one-shot deficit on the 18th hole to force a Monday playoff. Then went on to win that same US Open the next day in one of the most impressive feats in sports history (with a broken leg and a torn ACL). It was the shirt he wore when he came back at Pebble Beach 7 shots down with 7 holes to play. His play the last few weeks and more importantly the last 3 days has brought back flashes of that greatness. That scares people and if it doesn’t, it should.
There is just something about Woods in red on a Sunday that makes him superhuman. Almost unbeatable, Conners should just concede now because there is nothing that can stop Tiger Woods in red on Sunday (probably cause Tiger practices blood magic or some shit).
Since 2014 Woods has had 4 back surgeries. The last of which was a “great success”. Woods completed intensive rehab (for both his back and drugs) and he finally looks like he has found a groove playing great golf. Which is great for the PGA and for the sport of golf.
Even though he had that whole scandal with countless woman, and was arrested for a DUI, everyone and their mother roots for Tiger. Especially on Sunday wearing his Sunday red. There is just something extraordinary about watching Tiger make an impossible shot look so effortless. Witnessing raw talent like that is as addicting as that regiment of drugs Woods was on. It is also one of the reasons I am rooting for a Woods victory Sunday.
If Tiger wins the Valspar Championship, it will set the stage for the Masters in a couple of weeks. Winning the Valspar will give Woods the momentum and confidence that proves he is back and ready to go. So Tiger, put on your red shirt- have a helluva round and keep putting it in the hole both on and off the links.
