AUGUSTA, Ga. — Dustin Johnson took a serious fall on a staircase Wednesday and injured his lower back, and his manager said it was uncertain whether the world’s No. 1 golfer would be able to play in the Masters. It was a stunning development on an otherwise quiet day at Augusta National, where the course was shut down at 1:30 p.m. because of storms.
The real calamity struck a few hours later.David Winkle, his manager at Hambric Sports, said Johnson fell on the stairs at the home he is renting in Augusta. Johnson was wearing socks on barewood floors when he fell, landing on his lower back and both elbows.
“He landed very hard on his lower back and is now resting, although quite uncomfortably,” Winkle said in an email. “He has been advised to remain immobile and begin a regiment of anti-inflammatory medication and icing, with the hope of being able to play tomorrow.”
What might help Johnson is that he is in the last group for the opening round, scheduled to tee off at 2:03 p.m. Thursday with two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson and PGA champion Jimmy Walker. Johnson was an 11-2 favorite to win the Masters entering Wednesday, according to the Westgate SuperBook. After news of his injury, his odds dropped to 7-1, the same as both Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. H/T ESPN
Why is Dustin Johnson, the night before the Masters, doing some wreckless shit in his house like walking on bare hardwood steps in just regular socks?! Do you have any idea how fucking dangerous that is? Clearly, Dustin has not yet realized that. If you’re gonna walk around in your house with bare hardwood ice floors you at very least need some of those hospital socks with the rubber on the bottom. You need to at the very least hit up Brady and get some of those plush man Uggs. Why wasn’t Paulina scouting the house for potential issues? They have a kid now, she should be on her game with that shit. Minus 1 point Paulina.
If Dustin ends up not being able to play that’s gonna be a huge shift of power within the tournament. He’s the world #1 golfer right now and has won three straight tournaments leading up to Augusta. He was the favorite for a reason, but now could be DNPCD’ed by the morning.
All in all, irresponsible move on Dustin’s part. You need to be kept in a bubble the night before the biggest golf tournament of your life. Paulina should be there waiting on hand and foot. If Dustin has to get up at all, he’s done too much. Now that we’re in this position though, Dustin should lay back, get IT up and Paulina should be doing everything she can to keep him “satisfied” every minute from now until 2:30 pm Thursday.
