Will Errol Spence be the New Welterweight King?

After a dominant display against Lamont Peterson, a veteran who was also champion at one point in his career was clearly outboxed by the younger and stronger Errol Spence Jr (23-0 20KO). Spence’s goal is to wipe the division clean either this year or the next. After he mops up the welterweight division he even aspirations to face Golden Boy’s cash cow, Canelo Alvarez, who sits one weight class is above the welterweight division. Errol Spence is serious and he does not have patience, and if he has it his way he will fight at least two more times before the year ends.

That’s one hell of a statement. During his press conference leading into his fight against Peterson, he even claimed that all the top welterweights are avoiding him. Guys such as Keith Thurman who owns two of the belts that Spence wants. Keith Thurman posted an Instagram aimed at Errol Spence but until they fight it’s a bad look on Thurman’s part that he’s avoiding an opponent who’s constantly calling him out.

The last belt Spence has his eyes set on is currently owned by Jeff Horn (18-0-1 12KO) who eventually will be fighting newcomer to the division, Terrence Crawford (32-0 23KO). Crawford also claims that he will wipe out the welterweight division in a similar fashion to his former weight class.

Errol Spence Jr. has a mandatory defense of his belt in Dallas, his hometown in June which should be easy work for someone like him.

The fight that everyone really wants to see besides Keith Thurman is hopefully a unification of all the welterweight belts between Errol Spence Jr. and Terrence Crawford!
